"Worker's Paradise"

Welcome to The Moby Dick Hotel, Restaurant and Oyster Farm located onWillapaBay and theLong BeachPeninsula. The Moby Dick has a long history of serving the public as a hostelry and restaurant. Originally built in 1929-30, buildings and furnishings have been restored in the spirit of the 30’s with an eclectic, bohemian charm offering a unique and comfortable atmosphere. Nine rooms, all with their own stylishly funky personality, come packaged with a three-course breakfast featuring our home-grown oysters. Spacious public rooms include two living rooms and a small lounge upstairs, complemented by a classic fireplace - the perfect spot to curl up with a good book selected from our fine collection of literature. A piano from the 40’s and a video collection add to the possibilities.

Area attractions include the historic Lewis & Clark Trail featuring museums, parks, and forts.  Our beautiful natural surroundings encourage birding, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, cycling… as well as whale watching, mushroom hunting and a favorite – kiting. TheWorldKiteMuseum is located nearby and hosts three kite festivals a year.

As you adventure outdoors, you will find a number of paths that ramble through the woods, out to the Bay, and through our organic vegetable, herb and flower gardens. Quiet seating areas are nestled throughout the spacious property.

Thar she blows! It's whale-watching time at the coast

"Don’t let the new-age yurt by the side of the house throw you off. Stepping through the door is like entering a time warp back to a simpler, gentler era. Those who stay here say they feel as if they’ve come home, even if they have never been to Willapa Bay before. The rooms may be modest, but most visitors spend their time in the common areas that include a locally loved and nationally praised restaurant. The inn has eight simple, individually decorated rooms, some with private baths and most with their own themes. The train room features posters of trains, for example. The inn’s nicest room has a queen bed with a soaking tub and a view of the bay from a small balcony. The wooded property also has a Japanese sauna overlooking the bay, organic gardens and a solar hot water system. As for the yurt, it offers a unique setting for health and yoga retreats, small parties and business meetings." Gayot.com

"Though it looks a bit like a big yellow bunker from the outside, the Moby Dick is actually a comfortable bed-and-breakfast inn. Built as a hotel back in 1930 (the year before the train stopped running), the hotel quickly fell on hard times. Today it's a casual place, eclectically furnished in a 1930s style. The location, up at the north end of the peninsula, is removed from the beach strip of Seaview and Long Beach, and is convenient to Leadbetter Park and its wild dunes and beaches. You'll also be within walking distance of The Ark Restaurant. Low rates, friendly atmosphere, and a tranquil setting make this a great choice. There is a sauna for taking off the chill, and dinners are available in the dining room. Breakfasts often included fresh oysters from the inn's oyster beds." Frommers.com

To begin your step back into a quieter time, try the Japanese style sauna. In the trees at the edge of the Bay, it provides both views of the beautiful natural surroundings and the perfect place to sweat the stress away.
